Who buys standalone terminals

  • High-ticket merchants: HVAC, plumbing, medical practices, jewelry repair. Terminal + receipt printer, no POS software needed. Keep their own books or use external accounting.
  • Field service: Technicians who collect on-site (Uber model). Terminal + mobile app or VPN access to home office gateway.
  • Pop-ups & events: Dejavoo P Line for outdoor markets, food trucks, festivals. Rugged, battery-powered, offline mode.
  • Bars & simple restaurants: Valor terminal + receipt printer. No inventory/staff features, just payment processing.
  • Cash-heavy & control-conscious: Business owners who want payment processing without "big software" oversight. Terminal stays in their control, our processing underneath.

Conversion & positioning

  • From Square/SumUp terminal: Pitch our terminal + processing as total cost alternative. "Square terminal limits you to Square processing. We give you a smart terminal + choice of processor." Merchants already on card-present see the value immediately.
  • From legacy terminals: "Your old terminal is dumb — no connectivity, no reports. This PAX/Dejavoo connects to cloud, apps, VPN access for remote teams, offline mode, and our rates beat your current processor."
  • New merchant (field service, contractor, pop-up): Position as "Start here — low commitment. Terminal + processing. If you grow into POS later, migrate anytime. We keep it simple until you need complexity."

Rate conversation

Standalone terminal merchants are often on old-school per-transaction or flat-rate plans. Dual pricing resonates: "Keep the terminal, get zero fees on cash, pay rate X on cards." If CNP (phone orders, online) needed, that's a gateway add-on — quote separately so they see the modular approach.

Submit a standalone terminal deal

1

Assess the workflow

Card-present only? Or CNP (phone/online orders) too? Offline mode critical? Multi-location? This determines terminal pick + gateway need.

2

Recommend terminal

PAX: Android apps, multi-currency, standard smart terminal. Dejavoo: Rugged, outdoor-rated, offline champion. Valor: Simple, all-in-one, bar/restaurant focused.

3

Add gateway if CNP

If taking phone/online orders: add NMI / FluidPay / Authorize.net gateway. Quote separately: terminal hardware + monthly gateway fee + processing.

4

Quote processing

Dual pricing, interchange-plus, or flat rate. Show total monthly cost (terminal lease or amortized, gateway if applicable, processing).

5

Submit order + docs

Email to [USER PROVIDED: Terminal submission email] — subject "Terminal deal — {DBA}". Attach: signed application, voided check, ID, 3 months statements, CNP workflow docs (if applicable).

6

Terminal activation

Terminal ships to merchant or your office. Activation: configure IP, set batch time, load dual pricing (if applicable), test transaction.

Standalone terminal fast facts for your pitch

  • No POS lock-in: Merchant keeps their books, CRM, accounting system. Terminal is just payment processing.
  • Smart terminal = app ecosystem: PAX runs apps (loyalty, inventory light, VPN client for remote teams). Not just payment.
  • Offline mode: WiFi down? Terminal keeps working. Batch syncs when connection returns. Critical for remote/outdoor merchants.
  • Dual pricing leverage: Standalone merchants often have cash mix. "Zero fees on cash" is huge ROI for them.
  • Field service favorite: Dejavoo P Line runs on battery, rugged, survives jobsites. Contractors/plumbers/HVAC love it.
  • Total cost: Terminal (one-time) + gateway (if CNP, monthly) + processing (per transaction). Compare to competitor terminal lock-in (Square = Square processor only).
