Installation options New Sept 14, 2026

Starting September 14, 2026, Shift4's Sales Center assigns the install type automatically based on the total number of workstations at the location. It only shows the install options that workstation count allows.

Internal only. This comes from Shift4 partner training material, so don't forward the Shift4 document to merchants. Do explain the new rules to any pipeline prospect with 1 to 3 terminals before they sign.
1workstation

Remote only No cost

Remote install is the only option. Onsite is not offered at this count.

A Shift4 installer guides the setup, with the same training either way.

2–3workstations

Merchant's choice Choice

Remote: no cost.

Onsite: $599, billed on the 4th month statement. Waived automatically if the merchant processes over $30,000 in any one of the first 3 full months after install.

4+workstations

Onsite included Complimentary

Onsite install at no cost, reflecting the complexity of larger deployments.

How the $599 onsite fee and $30K waiver work (2–3 workstations, onsite only)

  • Clock starts at install completion, when the order hits Stage 700.
  • The install month never counts, even if the install finished on the 1st.
  • Evaluation window: the first 3 full calendar months after completion. Over $30K in any single one of those months waives the fee.
  • Bill posts on the invoice the month after the window closes. Shift4 tracks this automatically off processing volume. Nobody submits anything.

What you'll see in Sales Center

Workstations are counted from the hardware bundle quantities (for example, 1 VESA Mount Workstation Bundle + 2 Shift4 Dine stations = 3 workstations). Under Additional Information, Programming Methods:

Key takeaways

  • Certified partners: partners certified in installation and programming can use a remote install and stay onsite to work alongside the Shift4 remote team. For uncertified partners, Shift4 works directly with the merchant.
  • Partner installations: standard Partner Installations are not affected by this rollout.
  • Account review: a Remote Installation Specialist reviews each merchant account and may move the order to onsite if that is a better fit.
  • Pipeline: tell existing prospects with 1 to 3 terminals about the new install rules now, so a remote install or the $599 fee is never a surprise.
  • How to position it: remote installs come with a dedicated specialist who reserves time just for that merchant, and satisfaction scores from Shift4's pilot met or beat onsite installs.

What the merchant experiences

  • Equipment arrives with a "scan before opening" QR code that opens the Remote Installation Guide.
  • Install day: the Remote Install Specialist calls at the scheduled time and confirms the merchant is ready.
  • Hardware setup: the merchant installs the hardware with the specialist's guidance and a step-by-step installation video.
  • Settings and training: the specialist walks through site-specific settings and trains the merchant.

Conversion & positioning

  • If merchant already uses SkyTab: They're locked in (36-month agreement). No conversion play. Focus on upselling modules or moving processing to our rails if not already done.
  • If prospect is NOT on SkyTab yet: Pitch the full system — hardware (placement), software modules, processing on our rails. Lead with $0 upfront + lifetime warranty as differentiators vs competitor hardware costs.

Rate conversation

SkyTab is a placement: focus on total cost of ownership (hardware $0 down vs competitor upfront costs), then quote processing separately. Dual pricing works well in casual FSR; fine dining often prefers clean interchange-plus. Lead with the math: "You save [X] on hardware alone, then we match or beat your current processing rate."

Build the configuration

Map the venue: # of stations, # of handhelds, need KDS? Gift cards? Loyalty? Caller ID? OLO? Workforce? Pick from the module list above. Customer Hub (Lighthouse) is required on every deal. Total it up.

Quote total cost

Monthly recurring: sum of all modules ($29.99 base + extras). One-time hardware: drawers, tills, cables if needed. Processing: quote our rate (dual pricing / interchange-plus / flat rate) on our rails.

Explain the agreement

Be explicit: 30-day trial, then 36-month agreement. Merchants understand this is a commitment. It builds trust when you're upfront.

Submit order + docs

Email to [USER PROVIDED: Deal submission email] — subject "SkyTab deal — {DBA}". Include config (# of stations/modules), signed app, voided check, ID, statements.

Schedule training & install

Once approved: coordinate with merchant for training date. Shift4 handles the menu build. Install type follows the workstation count (see Installation options). Log deal to CRM with go-live date.

Go-live support

Merchant support escalates to Shift4 Dine team. You stay in touch for first batch, then transition to Shift4's support for ongoing issues.

SkyTab fast facts for your pitch

  • Lifetime hardware warranty: Any hardware fails, Shift4 replaces it free — for life. Competitive advantage over purchased POS systems.
  • Pay-at-table: Handhelds reduce table turn time and increase tips (customers see itemized receipt, tip on handheld).
  • $0 upfront: Hardware placement means no capital outlay — cash flow stays with the merchant.
  • KDS (kitchen display system): Replaces printer tickets, reduces order errors and remake costs — calculate this ROI for the merchant.
  • Caller ID: Pizza shops + delivery venues: incoming caller's history pops on screen (if in system) — sales + accuracy boost.
  • OLO (Online Ordering): Your own online ordering (not just 3rd-party app integration) — merchants keep 100% of order value, no commission.
