Pricing models — five ways to price processing

Pick the pricing model that fits the merchant's business and your deal. Each has different complexity, merchant psychology, and margin potential.

ModelMerchant paysWhen to useWatch for
Dual pricing (0%)Card price vs cash price; program fee built into card priceFee-sensitive: food, liquor, c-store, trades, startupsTwo prices must be posted on menu, website, and any place the merchant lists prices (cash & card). Terminal/POS file must be built for it. Signage required. A few owners hate the optics — have interchange-plus ready.
Cash discountPosted price is the card price; cash payers get a discount at the registerSimplest story at the counter — QSR, c-store, single-price menusThe discount must come OFF the posted price. A "non-cash adjustment" fee added on top of a lower posted price is what gets merchants flagged — signage and receipts must match
SurchargeA disclosed % fee added to CREDIT transactions only — debit is always at the posted priceCredit-heavy B2B, professional services, big tickets where two shelf prices feel wrongCredit only, never debit or prepaid; capped at 3% and can't exceed your cost of acceptance; card brands must be notified and a few states still restrict it — check before filing
Interchange-plusTrue cost + transparent markup (bps + per-item)Higher tickets, professional offices, statement beatsKnow your buy rate before quoting; margin = what you quote − buy rate
Flat rateOne blended % (+ per item)Micro-merchants, simplicity buyersYou eat interchange swings — keep the blend honest

Building the proposal

One page tells the whole story: the stack, the pricing model, the savings vs today, and what happens next.

  • Use the Proposal Studio — the document assembles live: catalog builder, one-pager, NextLink quote, all print-to-PDF on letterhead.
  • Catalog numbers come from the same source as the public Build Your Solution page.
  • SkyTab: start from the blank SkyTab proposal PDF.
  • Next2Pay Invoicing: use the Proposal Studio above, or request a Next2Pay proposal template from the Deal Desk.
  • Show annual savings from the Statement Review calculator — it's the number they remember.
  • Never put buy rates, splits, or internal pricing info in a proposal.
